Common Blue Series

In this series of work I momentarily expose sections of the light sensitive paper to the sun, before reorganising the order and the arrangement of the paper. There are many variations depending on the weather, the type of paper I am using and, of course, how I cut and fold the paper.

The title of the work comes from the butterfly of the same name as the light-sensitive cyanotype paper is inherently blue in colour while the folding and unfolding of the paper is reminiscent of the delicate folding and unfolding of a butterfly’s wings on a sunny summer’s day.
