Cuneiform Series

‘Snell’s Cuneiform series investigates the dynamics of simple geometric structures.  He has taken the cuneiform configuration out of its historical and literary context and applied it to a non-verbal context of symbols examining the transformation of abstract spatial relationships. The work presents a dichotomy of form and movement. An implicit order and structure is evident; each static stage can be viewed as a complete visual composition or as a series of inter-related symbols in constant flux. Rather than being a device for endless permutations, the kinetic mode focuses on the relative values of motion, rhythm, tension as well as the relationships of symmetry and asymmetry’.
