La Façade

‘I propose for the façade of the Théâtre de la Bastille to take your plan of the building and transpose the information on the plan back on to the façade.  The dimensions indicated on the plan are in the format generally accepted in our society as a system of measurement. Therefore the numbers relate directly to the space and inherently belong and, in this combination only exist for this particular building.  My proposal is to take these numbers from the plan and, enlarged proportionally, place them back in their rightful position on the face of the theatre. The number will be made in neon and, like all signs are used to reinforce information that already exists.  Vivid pink in colour the neon will bathe the building in a glow which will make the project visible day and night.’
